RULES WHEN ATTENDING EVENTS
- For weekend events, any members who would like to cancel an event must do so at least 36 hours prior to the start of the event. Failure to cancel an event you don’t show up for will result in a deduction of half the event’s hours. This applies primarily for in-person events.
- For virtual events, there will be no hours dedication. However, please tell us if you cannot attend at least 1-2 hours prior. This can be done by replying to an event confirmation email or directly contacting an event leader.
- If the confirmation email for an event has NOT been sent out, do NOT attend the event. Contact the event leader or Communications director for clarification.
- Make sure to check your spam if you have not received a confirmation email!
REQUIREMENTS
The Stuyvesant Environmental Club convened with its 2017-2018 Cabinet for the first time on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017. In the first-ever Athenian democracy, the club voted for which requirements to implement in future school years until amended. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, these requirements were adjusted to reflect the virtual club experience during the 2020-2021 school year. In June 2021, the 2021-22 Cabinet and Advisory Council met to discuss the requirements for the following year. They are as follows:
1. Mandatory participation for at least 4 club hours every marking period. All club meetings or events are valid sources of hours.
2. Mandatory attendance at clubwide meetings, which are held 1-2 times a semester, and the Earth Day Fair, which is held near Earth Day in April (unless excused).
3. Members must do cafeteria duty under Ms. Maggio's assignments (typically will be scheduled for once every two weeks).*
4. Members must accumulate 20 hours prior to club elections (which occur in May or June).
5. Members must meet the above five requirements, unless otherwise excused, in order to obtain voting rights and a membership certificate at the end of the school year.
a. If a member does not meet these requirements, they will be removed from the roster and must sign up again if they wish to remain a part of the club the following school year.
6. In order to run in the election, candidates for Secretary and Vice President must have accumulated 25 hours prior to club elections. Candidates for President must have accumulated 30 hours prior to club election day, which is held in late May to early June.
7. There shall be at least four democratically elected leaders at all times (the Cabinet).
*This requirement may be replaced by Hallway Duty. Every four stations graded can exempt a member from one cafeteria duty.
Note that the first seven requirements may be subject to change during the school year based on the state of the pandemic, member feedback, and Cabinet + Advisory Council decisions. These requirements will not be increased.
